Peter Mayhew, the original Chewbacca, has passed away
Chewbacca is one of the most recognizable character in Star Wars.
And easily one of the most beloved.
But fans all over the globe are in mourning today.
Because Peter Mayhew, the original Chewbacca, has passed away.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the actor was 74 years-old.
His family announced the news online:
The family of Peter Mayhew, with deep love and sadness, regrets to share the news that Peter has passed away. He left us the evening of April 30, 2019 with his family by his side in his North Texas home. pic.twitter.com/YZ5VLyuK0u

Mayhew played Chewbacca in all of the original Trilogy Star Wars films.
He reprised the role in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, and in 2015’s The Force Awakens.
