New Study Finds 1 in 300 People Succeed on an “Early to bed, Early to rise” Schedule
Good news for early birds and those who are getting the right amount of sleep each night: you’re thriving!
A new study from researchers at UCSF found that 1 in 300 people thrive on early to bed and early to rise schedules.
The study found that the “advanced sleep phase” (which means that our circadian rhythms/body clocks operate on a earlier schedule than most people) is a lot more common than what was originally thought.
Professor of neurology at UCSF and one of the study’s authors, Louis Ptacek MD mentioned that those with advance sleep phase are more rested and ready for their day,
“While most people struggle with getting out of bed at 4 or 5 a.m, people with advanced sleep phase wake up naturally at this time, rested and ready to take on the day.”
If you can fall asleep before 8:30pm and wake up before 5:30am on a daily basis and have only one sleep period a day, researchers would count you as an “advanced sleeper.”
I think we fit the advanced sleeper role most of the time. After all, we are the morning show crew who have to get up earlier than most people!
