Lizzo Faces A Second Plagiarism Charge For “Truth Hurts”

Lizzo is now facing a second accusation of plagiarism for her massive hit song Truth Hurts, and this one has legs.  A songwriter and producer, Justin Raisen, claims that the line “I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100% that bitch” was also the opening line of another song called Healthy, that Justin wrote with Lizzo back in 2017.   The melody is also the same, only in a different key.

Justin posted a comparison video to Instagram, and it’s pretty undeniable. He’s only asking for 5% of songwriting royalties, and says they’ve tried to clear this matter up quietly for the past 2 years, but have been shut down every time.  He also says he’s happy for Lizzo’s success and doesn’t want to be unreasonable.

The question is… can an artist use a line from another song that they co-wrote, without paying the other writers?  Seems to me a hard NO, but we’ll find out soon enough… and the truth may hurt!
