According to ET, it all started as an internet meme.
Specifically, the ones centered on the bizarre incident involving rapper 21 Savage.
Savage was arrested this weekend, and detained by ICE.
The details of the arrest became public, and the world suddenly learned that the rapper was actually a British national…
And had been living illegally in the US for over a decade.
The internet was quick to find the humor in the strange situation:

Oop! Both #DemiLovato and #Wale stepped into #TheShadeRoom about their issue 👀👀👀
The internet was quick to jump on her.
She received an avalanche of negative responses online.
Many of which she detailed in an Instagram story.
She then peaced out.
While many celebrities and friends came to her defense…
She still deleted her Twitter.
The fact of the matter is… she wasn’t making fun of 21 Savage.
She was remarking on how funny the memes were.
This is why we can’t have nice things on the Internet.
